Golden, Rare, Profitable – Know What to Look For
The Elder Scrolls Online offers hundreds of different crafting materials, each with its own source and purpose. Some are gathered from material nodes in the open world, others come from lootable containers like bags, barrels, or chests – and certain rare ones drop from specific PvE or PvP content.
Just like with gear, materials in ESO come in different rarities: white, green, blue, purple, and gold. And as you probably know, golden materials are not only the rarest but also among the most valuable – making them excellent targets for goldmaking.
The golden materials aren’t the only ones worth farming for goldmaking – but they’re definitely the most obvious ones. Their rarity and consistent demand make them a solid choice for anyone looking to earn gold through crafting or material farming.
In today’s Tavern Whisper, I’ll show you which golden materials are truly worth farming in 2025, how to get them, and why they hold such high value on the market.
Overview of the profitable golden materials
Rosin
The first material I want to highlight is Rosin. It’s one of the more affordable golden materials in The Elder Scrolls Online, currently selling for around 580 gold on the EU server (as of May 2025).
Like other golden upgrade materials, Rosin is used to improve gear from epic (purple) to legendary (gold) quality. Specifically, it applies to woodworking, which includes bows, staves, and shields.
How to get Rosin:
- Farm and refine wood (e.g. from maple, birch, etc.)
- Deconstruct wooden items
- Hirelings (daily mail with crafting materials)
- Crafting Writs (rewards may include Rosin)

Kuta
Another affordable golden material you should know about is Kuta. Its not that expensive, but widely used and incredibly useful – especially if you enjoy customizing your build without changing your gear.
Kuta is the golden Aspect rune used in enchanting, and it determines the quality of your glyphs. Whether you’re looking to boost base stats, resistances, or damage, using Kuta ensures your enchantments are as powerful as possible.
Currently, Kuta sells for around 1,900 gold on the EU server (as of May 2025).
How to get Kuta:
- Farm runestones in the open world (look for enchanting nodes)
- Disenchant glyphs or runes from loot
- Hirelings (daily mail with enchanting materials)
- Crafting Writs (chance to receive Kuta)

Chromium Plating
Now let’s talk about one of the more expensive golden materials in ESO: Chromium Plating. This rare and sought-after item is used to upgrade jewelry – rings and necklaces – from epic (purple) to legendary (gold) quality.
Due to its limited availability and essential role in high-end builds, Chromium Plating consistently holds a high market value. As of May 2025, it’s priced at around 7,200 gold on the EU server.
How to get Chromium Plating:
- Farming and refining raw jewelry materials
- Deconstructing jewelry
- Hirelings (daily free materials based on crafting skill)
- Crafting writs

Tempering Alloy
Another golden material worth mentioning is Tempering Alloy. It’s used to upgrade blacksmithing items—such as steel weapons and heavy armor – from epic (purple) to legendary (gold) quality.
Currently, it’s a valuable crafting material for anyone focused on improving their blacksmithing gear or making gold from high-end upgrades. Tempering Alloy is worth around 4,200 gold on EU server as of May 2025.
How to get Tempering Alloy:
- Farming and refining raw blacksmithing materials
- Deconstructing heavy armor and steel weapons
- Hirelings (daily free materials via mail)
- Crafting Writs

Dreugh Wax
The last golden material for gear crafting on our list is Dreugh Wax. It’s used to upgrade clothing gear – that includes light and medium armor – from epic (purple) to legendary (gold) quality.
It holds a solid market value, currently priced at around 10,500 gold on the EU server (May 2025).
How to get Dreugh Wax:
- Farming and refining leather or cloth materials
- Deconstructing light and medium armor
- Hirelings (daily free materials based on your clothing crafting level)

Perfect Roe
The most expensive material on this list is Perfect Roe. It’s obtained exclusively by filleting fish, which makes it unique among golden materials – and also quite rare. The drop rate is low, but when it does drop, it’s highly valuable.
On the EU server (as of May 2025), Perfect Roe is selling for around 24,000 gold, making it one of the best materials to farm if you’re aiming for pure gold profit.
How to get Perfect Roe:
- Fillet fish (all types, caught while fishing in open water)
- Buy fish and fillet them yourself
- Purchase Perfect Roe directly from guild traders

It’s important to mention: There are more golden materials in The Elder Scrolls Online – and some of them are worth a small fortune. However, not all of them are worth farming, simply because their drop rates are too low to make them a reliable source of income.
That’s why I’ve focused this guide on the most common and practical golden materials you can farm consistently.
How to farm materials more effective
Now let’s talk about how to improve your material farming experience in The Elder Scrolls Online.
In this post, I’ll keep it short and focus on the most important tips. If you’re looking for a more in-depth guide to maximize your efficiency and profit, make sure to check out my blog post on the easiest speed build in ESO 2025.
But for now, let’s focus on the key Champion Points and skills that help you gather more golden materials faster and more effectively.
Important champion points
The most important Champion Point nodes for a fast and efficient material farming build are located in the green skill tree, also known as “Craft”. Specifically, there are three key nodes you’ll want to unlock – these are shown in the screenshot below.
To fully benefit from them, you’ll need to be at least CP level 600. Why? Because while the required investment is 210 green Champion Points, only every third CP you earn is green. So reaching CP 600 is the threshold to unlock the full potential of this setup.

#01 Meticulous Disassembly
This node is key to efficient gold material farming. Activating it, increases the chance of getting golden materials while refining raw material farmed in the open world or bought through a guild trader.#02 Master Gatherer
If you activate Master Gatherer you can reduce the time it takes to harvest up to 50% and believe me – that makes a huge difference farming way more chilled. But you need to invest 75 championpoints to get there. As the tooltip already says, you only get 10% per stage and every stage costs 15 CP. Its totally worth it if you ask me.
#03 Plentiful Harvest
The third and last node I want to mention is Plentiful harvest. As well as master gatherer it has 5 stages and every stage increases your chance to gain double resources from normal resource nodes. That means you can increase this buff up to 50% which hits pretty hard. This way you can get way more materials for your time and effort.
Hireling skills
Now we come to our hireling skills. These skills are basically a way to “farm” crafting materials without doing anything. As the name says, you hire a NPC that farms materials for you which you can loot once every day. If you activate this skills, you’ll receive a daily mail with the materials. The amount and quality of the materials depends on the unlocked skill-level. Every hireling has three different stages unlocked at specific level in this skilline. You can see these levels listed below. One more important thing to note is, that there are only five different hirelings even though, there are seven crafting professions. There are no hirelings for alchemy and jewelry crafting.

Bonus tip: Don’t rush to sell every piece of loot – it’s often far more valuable to deconstruct items instead, not only to gain extra crafting materials but also to level up your skill lines efficiently.
